I never thought I would visit Hawaii in my lifetime, let alone have the opportunity to go back for a second time. But that’s exactly what happened when another Automattic team met in Kauai to work on an exciting new project.
The work week was extremely productive, we had a bunch of discussions, and spend lots of time staring at our screens typing code or creating designs, while the breeze kept inviting us outdoors. So by the end of the week we were ready to explore the Garden Island.
We got in our three Jeeps and hit the road, heading for some proper off-road action. There were lots of water splashes, gorgeous sceneries, picturesque waterfalls, plenty of mud, and even a punctured radiator — whoops!
The highlight of the whole trip was a hike from the Kalalau lookout across the ridge of the hilltop, with sloping drops on both sites that went on for hundreds and hundreds of meters. Risky stuff, but so rewarding to chase one of the most beautiful sunsets ever engulfed by all that greenery, and have to head back while the light slowly went out.
